I was the director of the program for two years. These programs were for training and, at the same time, the springboard for a promotion with the company. It was both for learning and motivating. GiuseppinaRusso: You explained how Global Latinas have been successful at catering to low-income and price-sensitive consumers; is this a competitive and sustainable advantage for the future? Growth is in emerging markets and emerging markets share one characteristic: they have a wide segment of the population with low purchasing power. I would add that many customers in the western world are becoming price sensitive in these times of crisis and this competitive advantage of Aje Group and many other emerging multinationals is becoming key for companies all over the world to survive.

Financing has been and still is quite expensive in latin America. Cemex, for instance, acquired two Spanish companies in and has always used Spain as the subsidiary to finance their international expansion. The founders of the Latin American companies had the vision to contribute to the development of their countries. They wanted to bring the latest technology to the region. This spirit was, somehow, lost in the 80s and the 90s when local companies had a hard time to survive during the economic crisis and extreme hiperinflation and volatility.

I would argue that the companies have to recover the spirit of the founders again and have a compromise with society.
